What'S the Difference Between Outrigger Canoe and Regular Canoe?

I'm thinking of renting a canoe for the first time on a camping trip this summer and before the trip. There is a local event of outrigger canoeists' open house, and I'm wondering going to that and looking at the outrigger canoe helps me in anyway to learn how to paddle a regular canoe. Are they totally different and will I be better off reading books about canoeing? or will this be a good opportunity?
Is the way to paddle on respective boats the same or different?

Outrigger canoes have a buoyancy aid cantilevered alongside the canoe. It usually works like training wheels on a bike. You don’t need such a canoe unless you are going into ocean travel. Recreational canoes are inherently stable. Maximum stability is attained if you paddle from a kneeling position. Join a local canoeing club. Take canoe lessons. Few DIY paddlers ever learn how to paddle in a skilled way. Have fun….
